Simula ng ma draft noong 2011 bilang number 1 overall sa Carolina Panthers si Newton ay naging mukha na ito ng franchise. Dinala niya ang Panthers sa three straight titles mula noon 2013-15, at super bowl appearance noong 2015 season at naging NFL MVP. Nakuha niya din ang tatlo Pro Bowls sa siyam na season.
Ayon kay Newton tungkol sa kanyang trade. “Stop with the word play,” he wrote. “There is no dodging this one. I love the Panthers to death and will always love you guys. Please do not try and play me or manipulate the narrative and act like I wanted this, you forced me into this.”
Si Newton ay nagkaron ng foot injury na dapat dumaan sa proseso. At nagkaron din ng multiple shoulder surgeries sa kanyang career.
